Ice Shelf Collapse
About Ice Shelf Collapse
I made this track a few years ago, and have played it live a few times, but had a bit of mixing work to do on it before releasing that I just hadn’t got around to. The material for it is from my noodling around on guitar with a Chase Bliss MOOD on one of my favorite settings (reverse delay up a 5th), chopped up in very complicated ways in Ableton’s sampler. The name Ice Shelf Collapse was just a play on using the freeze mode on the Live’s spectral time plugin, which is awesome, and serves as kind of a sonic bed for the main material.
Then climate change lit my city on fire, people places records agreed to put out a compilation album to raise funds for the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, a bunch of artists on the label and friends throughout LA provided music, and we set an insanely ambitious release target (idea Friday, release following Tuesday).
We ended up releasing it a day late, but the project gave me the kick I needed to finish the piece and get it out into the world. You can listen to it here, but it would be even cooler if you listened to it alongside the rest of the tracks on the compilation, and bought a copy to help buy equipment and supplies for the firefighters on the front line.
